ARTIST: Ólafur Arnalds

Chris is right. I’m just not a fan of classical music.

But maybe I’m getting there.

In April 2009 Ólafur Arnalds released Found Songs, an EP composed and recorded over the period of only seven days and what a magical seven days that must have been. Despite being labeled as a ‘neo-classical’ artist Arnalds has created some of the most moving pieces of music I’ve heard all year. Even a hard heart like mine can be softened by classical music once in a while.

I’m completely overwhelmed trying to relate to you what it is about Ólafur Arnald’s music that is so meaningful to me right now. I don’t have any knowledge of keys, melodies, or measures so the best I can do is let you hear for yourself  how eloquent and expressive these songs are.

That’s actually really pretty. The problem w/ a lot of classical after Beethoven is melody took a backseat to theory and it’s all pretentious, wrong-headed crap. Painting and lit had the same problem but you can see the good stuff coming back big lately. Great time to be an art lover.
